FIFA Investigates Congolese FA Officials for Misuse of Funds

FIFA has launched a formal ethics investigation against three senior officials of the Congolese Football Association (Fecofoot) for alleged financial misconduct involving FIFA funds. The officials under scrutiny include Fecofoot President Jean Gui Mayola, General Secretary Wantet Badji, and Financial Director Raoul Kanda.

FIFA confirmed this development in a statement published on Wednesday, following a review of documents that indicated potential breaches of several provisions of its code of ethics, including Article 29 (misappropriation of funds), Article 25 (forgery), Article 20 (conflict of interest), and Article 21 (offering or accepting gifts or benefits). The investigation comes shortly after a criminal court in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, convicted Mayola's wife and son in absentia for embezzling $1.1 million from FIFA funds, resulting in Mayola receiving a life sentence on charges including money laundering and forgery.
