FIFA Investigates Congolese FA Officials for Misconduct

FIFA has initiated a formal investigation into three senior officials of the Congolese Football Association (Fecofoot) for alleged financial misconduct related to FIFA funds. The officials under scrutiny include Fecofoot President Jean Gui Mayola, General Secretary Wantet Badji, and Financial Director Raoul Kanda.

The investigation was announced via a statement on FIFA's website, following a review of documents that suggested potential financial irregularities, including misappropriation and misuse of funds, forgery, and conflicts of interest. FIFA has emphasized its commitment to ensuring accountability and transparency in the use of its funds across member associations.

This investigation comes shortly after a criminal court in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, reportedly convicted Mayola's wife and son in absentia for allegedly embezzling $1.1 million in FIFA funds, leading to Mayola being sentenced to life imprisonment on charges including money laundering and forgery.
