FIFA Investigates Congolese FA Officials for Misconduct

FIFA's Investigatory Chamber of the Independent Ethics Committee has opened formal proceedings against three senior officials of the Congolese Football Association (Fecofoot) due to allegations of financial misconduct involving FIFA funds. The officials under investigation are Fecofoot President Jean Gui Mayola, Secretary General Wantet Badji, and Financial Director Raoul Kanda.

The proceedings were announced in a statement published on FIFA's website on Wednesday, following a review of documents that indicated potential financial irregularities. The investigation suggests possible breaches of FIFA's Code of Ethics, including misappropriation of funds, forgery, conflict of interest, and the acceptance of gifts.

FIFA has emphasized its commitment to ensuring the responsible use of its funds and maintaining integrity in football administration across member associations. The ongoing proceedings come shortly after a court in Brazzaville convicted Mayola's wife and son in absentia for embezzling approximately $1.1 million in FIFA funds, with Mayola himself facing a life sentence on charges including money laundering and forgery.
