DR Congo Football Chief Mayola Sentenced for Corruption

Jean Gui Blais Mayola, the president of the Football Federation of the Democratic Republic of Congo, was found guilty of multiple financial crimes, including money laundering, embezzlement, and forgery, after an eight-month investigation. The court delivered its verdict in his absence, sentencing him to life imprisonment.

This case is part of a broader investigation into alleged financial misconduct within the country's football governing body. Two other officials, Secretary General Badji Mombo and Treasurer Raoul Kanda, were also convicted for their roles in the financial irregularities uncovered during the investigation and were sentenced to five years in prison.
