FIFA World Cup Ticket Prices Surge Amid High Demand

The FIFA World Cup is experiencing unprecedented demand for tickets, leading to soaring prices. Almost seven million tickets were made available for the tournament, with a maximum of four tickets purchasable per match.

The initial lottery saw around two million tickets sold, while the second sale phase in December and January attracted a record 508 million requests. Notably, the highest demand matches include the group stage and final matches, with ticket prices ranging from $60 to $8,680 for the best seats at the final, which costs $2,000.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that ticket prices reflect the high demand, a situation termed "dynamic pricing." Despite criticism, FIFA announced cheaper ticket categories for fans qualifying from 10% of national federations. The resale market is also a point of contention, with prices often exceeding face value, particularly for high-demand matches.
