FG Denies Finance Minister Admitting Tax Law Errors

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Fiscal Policy Tax Reform Committee, has dismissed claims that Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele admitted to errors in the new tax laws. The committee described these reports as misleading and misrepresentative of Oyedele's comments.

They urged Nigerians to await the outcome of a legislative probe into the tax law process, which is expected to conclude by January 2026. During a fireside chat at the Nigerian Bar Association's conference in Lagos, Oyedele highlighted the positive outcomes of the tax reform, including an increase in the number of businesses registering with the Corporate Affairs Commission and a rise in registered taxpayers from 10 million to 100 million nationwide.

The committee noted that while no law is perfect, continuous stakeholder engagement is essential for identifying and addressing gaps in future amendments. They urged the public to disregard sensational headlines and rely on official sources for accurate information regarding tax reform policies.
