Rivers United's Finidi George Praises Team After NPFL Win

Finidi George, the technical manager of Rivers United, expressed his satisfaction following the team's 2-0 victory against Plateau United in their opening match of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. The match took place on Sunday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Omagwa, near Port Harcourt.

Finidi noted the team's improved attacking and defensive performance, stating, “Normally, we’re a team that scores one goal (in a match), and we try to defend it,” but this time they quickly scored two goals. He acknowledged that while they had several chances, they could not convert all of them.

Finidi also commented on the club's recruitment during the transfer window, asserting that the new squad is stronger than last season's. He is optimistic about their upcoming match against FC San Pedro in Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday, 5 September, as they prepare for the CAF Champions League.
