Rivers United Rewards Players for Strong Season Start

Rivers United players and officials have been rewarded with cash bonuses for their impressive start to the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season. The team earned ₦2 million for their 2-0 victory over Plateau United in their league opener.

Barrister Chris Green, the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, awarded the team ₦1 million for each goal scored in the match. Additionally, Rivers United received $2,000 for their 1-1 draw against FC San Pedro of Cote d’Ivoire in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round tie.

The club commended the players and officials for their representation of Rivers State and Nigeria on both domestic and continental stages. These bonuses are part of the club's efforts to motivate the squad as they manage commitments in both the league and continental competitions.

Rivers United is now preparing for the return leg against FC San Pedro in Ikenne, aiming to advance to the second preliminary round.
