Fire Destroys Building in Anambra Community, No Casualties

On Thursday, at approximately 2 PM, a fire broke out in a residential building located in Lomu Village, Umunz, Orumba South Local Government Area, Anambra State. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire likely resulted from a power surge linked to an electrical fault.

Residents and passersby made efforts to contain the blaze before the Anambra State Fire Service arrived. The fire was brought under control after about an hour of battling thick smoke and flames.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but several properties were destroyed in the incident. Chukwudi Chiketa, the head of the media and public unit of the Anambra State Fire Service, confirmed that the fire affected the main building within the compound but did not extend to surrounding structures.

The fire service received a distress call at 2:48 PM and responded promptly to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings. Residents were advised to ensure proper electrical installations and use surge protectors to prevent similar incidents in the future.
