EandC Legal Launches Nigerian Technology Law Report 2026

EandC Legal, a Nigerian startup and commercial law firm, has launched the Nigerian Technology Law Report 2026 to document how Nigerian courts are addressing legal issues stemming from the rapid growth of the digital economy. The inaugural report features 10 judgments that cover topics including electronic contracts, data protection, intellectual property, and technology transfer.

Omoruyi Edoigiawerie, Editor-in-Chief and Lead Partner of EandC Legal, stated that technology law has transcended being a specialized area, influencing virtually every field of law. The report adopts a functional approach to capture technology-related issues in conventional disputes, suggesting that cases involving electronic records or digital platforms may raise technology law questions.

The report also highlights the judiciary's increasing role as regulatory frameworks struggle to keep pace with technological advancements, emphasizing that courts often apply existing legal principles to unforeseen technologies. Edoigiawerie noted that judicial reasoning is crucial when existing statutes do not anticipate new technologies.
