FIRS Declares NIN as Official Tax ID, No Separate TIN Needed in Nigeria

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in Nigeria has announced that the National Identification Number (NIN) will now serve as the official Tax Identification Number (TIN) for individuals, eliminating the requirement for a separate TIN. This change is part of broader tax administration reforms in Nigeria to simplify tax identification processes and reduce duplication across government databases.

The FIRS clarified that businesses registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) will no longer need a separate TIN, as their registration numbers will serve as the official tax identifier. The reform is aimed at enhancing tax compliance, reducing tax evasion, and ensuring proper capture of taxable income.

Nigerian taxpayers are urged to disregard misleading information and comply with the new tax identification system.
