FIRS Declares NIN as Automatic Tax ID for Nigerians, Simplifying Tax Compliance

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in Nigeria has announced that the National Identification Number (NIN) issued by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) will automatically become the Tax Identification Number (TIN) for individuals in the country. This move is part of a new tax law aimed at streamlining tax identification and reducing tax evasion.

The FIRS Chairman, Taiwo Oyedele, clarified that the requirement for a TIN is not new but is being reinforced to ensure fair taxation and compliance. The new system aims to bring more individuals into the tax net and promote tax compliance in Nigeria.
