Ghanaian Graduate Wins Mastercard Scholarship for Canada

Amamata Tanko, a Ghanaian graduate, has achieved a significant milestone by securing a fully funded scholarship from the Mastercard Foundation to pursue a Master's degree at the University of British Columbia in Canada. Tanko graduated in 2022 with a First Class degree in Climate Change and Sustainable Development and subsequently worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Atmospheric and Climate Science at the University of Natural Resources.

Despite expectations to continue her studies at the same department, she chose to apply for a different program. After a challenging period filled with rejection emails and self-doubt, she submitted a single application in 2025, which led to her acceptance into the UBC Master of International Forestry program.

Tanko expressed gratitude to the Foundation and acknowledged the support of her husband, family, and mentors throughout her journey. She also reflected on her personal growth, including her marriage and faith transition.
