Nigeria Opens Applications for UK Commonwealth Scholarships

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced the opening of applications for the 2027/2028 Commonwealth Scholarships aimed at qualified Nigerian graduates seeking to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom. This scholarship opportunity includes a one-year taught Master’s programme or doctoral studies lasting up to three years at UK institutions.

The announcement was made by the Department of Scholarship Awards under the Federal Ministry of Education and shared by the Lagos State Scholarship Board. The notice, signed by Dr. Folake Olatunji-David, Director overseeing the Office of PSE, states that applications will close on October 20, 2026.

Applicants for the Master’s category must possess a first degree with at least a Second Class Upper Division, while doctoral candidates need a relevant Master’s degree and at least a Second Class Lower Division in their first degree. Both categories require admission from at least two eligible UK institutions, and doctoral candidates must submit a supporting statement from a prospective supervisor.

Applications will be assessed based on academic merit, development impact, and the quality of the proposed study plan.
