First Niger Bridge to Close for Maintenance from Sept 7

The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a temporary closure of sections of the First Niger Bridge for maintenance and repair works, starting on September 7, 2026, and lasting until September 21, 2026. Timothy Emenike, the acting Federal Controller of Works in Anambra State, disclosed this information in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He urged motorists, commuters, and other road users to plan their journeys accordingly and utilize the Second Niger Bridge as an alternative route during the closure. The maintenance will address vandalized sections of the bridge, which is a crucial transport link connecting communities and commercial centers on both sides of the Niger River.

Emenike emphasized that the work would be conducted day and night to minimize the duration of the closure. He acknowledged the inconvenience caused to road users and requested their patience and cooperation, advising them to follow diversion signs and instructions from traffic management authorities.
