SEDC to Launch Agro-mechanisation Project in Enugu

The South East Development Commission (SEDC) is preparing to flag off its first Agro-mechanisation project on Tuesday, part of a broader initiative encompassing 15 projects across the region's senatorial zones. Mark Okoye, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SEDC, made this announcement during a site visit to Nomeh Unateze community in Nkanu East LGA, Enugu State.

The SEDC, established in 2024, has focused its first year on developing a comprehensive economic blueprint, with the Agro-mechanisation projects being a key component aimed at tackling insecurity, unemployment, and food security. The initiative plans to cultivate up to 50,000 hectares of land for mechanised farming, starting with pilot programmes across 15 senatorial zones.

Okoye indicated that an investment of at least N4 billion or N5 billion would be injected into the project. He commended President Bola Tinubu for supporting the establishment of the commission and urged community support for ongoing development efforts.

Uche Anichukwu, a media aide to the Governor of Enugu State, recognized the project as a significant benefit of the current administration.
