Five Hospitalized After Rabid Dog Attack in Yobe State

Five victims were hospitalized after being attacked by a rabid dog in Yobe State. The Yobe State Ministry of Livestock's rapid response team, led by Dr.

Bulama Maina Yaro, acted promptly to contain the outbreak. They ensured the safe disposal of two goats that had been bitten by the infected dog.

The victims are currently receiving treatment, including a recommended five-dose post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) vaccination regimen. The situation has been brought under control, with the victims receiving proper medical attention.

The response team collaborated with the Yobe State Ministry of Livestock, with support from Abdullahi Maiwada, the Director of Veterinary Public Health, and the Primary Health Department in Damaturu. They conducted a community sensitization campaign led by Dr.

Yau Buba Wakil to educate residents on rabies symptoms and preventive measures. Dr.

Yaro commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for providing resources for vaccination and medical support to enable the rapid containment of the outbreak.
