Yobe State Advocates for Rabies Awareness and Sanitation

The Yobe State Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Culture has initiated a campaign aimed at raising awareness about rabies, flooding, cholera, and other climate-related health hazards. Hajiya Salamatu Yahaya Nangere, the permanent secretary of the ministry, led an advocacy delegation to the Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Umar Al-Amin El-Kanemi, to seek his support in mobilizing grassroots awareness.

This campaign is part of the Ministry’s efforts related to the 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) and community resilience. Nangere emphasized the importance of informing communities about the potential impacts of the rainy season, including disease outbreaks exacerbated by poor environmental conditions.

She highlighted the need for safe practices and proper sanitation. The Emir commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for his public health initiatives and acknowledged the critical role of traditional institutions in disseminating government messages and mobilizing community action.
