Five Officers Arrested for Bribery at Abuja Airport

On February 12, 2026, five security officers were arrested in connection with a bribery scandal involving a security breach at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The officers, identified as Ayuba Yakubu (ASP), Murtala Inuwa (DSS), Najeeb Murtala (ASI), Musa Adamu (Aviation Security), and Salihu Victor (AVSEC), confessed to receiving bribes that allowed unauthorized access to restricted areas and obstructed law enforcement operations.

The arrests followed a joint investigation by the Department of State Services, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, and the Federal Ministry of Aviation, which described the breach as a serious compromise of airport security protocols. The investigation revealed a link to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged misappropriation of 432 billion Naira during his tenure.

El-Rufai's legal team condemned the actions taken against him, which included charges related to wiretapping a national security advisor's phone line.
