Five Airport Security Officers Arrested for Bribery

On February 12, 2026, five security personnel attached to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja were arrested over allegations of bribery. The arrests were made following a joint investigation involving the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and the Federal Ministry of Aviation.

The personnel, including Ayuba Yakubu from the Nigeria Police, Murtala Inuwa from DSS, Najeeb Murtala from NIS, Musa Adamu from Aviation Security, and Salihu Victor from Aviation Security, reportedly received bribes to facilitate unauthorized entry into restricted areas of the airport, thereby obstructing lawful security operations. The investigation revealed that the officers confessed to their roles in compromising established security protocols.

They have been transferred to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for prosecution. This breach has raised significant concerns about the vulnerabilities within airport security architecture, prompting authorities to assure the public of reforms and the implementation of stricter oversight measures to prevent future occurrences.
