Nigerian Aviation Authority Plans Tougher Penalties for Airlines Over Flight Delays

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is set to introduce stricter penalties for domestic airlines facing continuous flight delays, citing the need for stronger regulatory actions. Despite longstanding support, the airlines' operational challenges have led to recurrent complaints from passengers.

The Director of Public Affairs at NCAA, Michael Achimugu, highlighted the necessity for improved punctuality, transparency, and compliance with consumer protection regulations. The authority referenced international practices, like JetBlue Airways' $2 million fine for chronic flight delays, as a benchmark for enforcement actions.

The move aims to enhance service delivery and ensure better passenger management in Nigerian airports.
