Osun State Flood Displaces Over 1,000 Households

On Wednesday, flooding in Osun State displaced over 1,000 households, severely impacting communities such as Gbodofon, Ogo-Oluwa, Omigade, Ijetu, Oke Arungbo, Baruwa, and Isale Osun. In Ijetu, Isale Osun, and Oke Osun, more than 700 buildings near the Osun River were affected.
Alhaji Teslim Olasunkanmi reported significant property losses, estimating over 500 buildings impacted in Ijetu alone. The flood also damaged schools, hotels, and businesses.
Akeem Gbadegesin, Secretary of Aroko Island Community in Ogo-Oluwa, noted that five buildings collapsed and temporary accommodations were being arranged for displaced residents. He mentioned that the water level remained high despite no rainfall, attributing it to a dam opening.
Osun State Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Mayowa Adejoorin, visited the affected areas, expressing sympathy and promising urgent government action while advising residents against dumping waste in waterways and constructing near riverbanks.
