Osun State Government to Audit Flood Projects and Prepare Early-Warning System

The Osun State Government has announced an initiative to audit flood-control infrastructure implemented since 2020 and to establish an early-warning system to prevent future flooding disasters. This decision was made by Governor Ademola Adeleke after assessing communities impacted by recent flooding, which affected over 1,000 households, particularly in Osogbo and surrounding areas.
The governor directed various ministries, including Environment, Works, and Health, to conduct a coordinated assessment of the affected communities. He ordered the establishment of a verified register of affected households and the initiation of a Flood Infrastructure Performance Audit for projects from 2020 onward.
Additionally, an integrated early-warning platform named "Osun Flood Watch" will be created to enhance preparedness for future flooding. The governor also mandated inspections of damaged infrastructure and stronger enforcement against developments obstructing waterways.
A consolidated climate-risk and flood-incident intelligence report will be coordinated by the Office of the Director-General and Special Envoy on Climate Change.
