Flooding in Ondo Disrupts Traffic on Major Expressway

On Wednesday, a torrential downpour triggered widespread flooding across Ondo State, particularly affecting the Lagos-Ore-Benin Expressway in Odigbo Local Government Area. This flooding left hundreds of motorists stranded in a gridlock for several hours, with vehicles stretching several kilometers.

Key locations such as Ondo town, Itanla Junction, Onipakala Junction, and the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) road were severely impacted, with vehicles submerged and property destroyed. Although there were no reported fatalities, many families were displaced, and commercial activities were disrupted.

Residents attributed the flooding to poor drainage infrastructure and blockage of waterways, calling for government intervention. Joshua Oladele, a stranded traveler, expressed frustration over the situation and urged for urgent solutions.

The Ondo State Government, represented by Commissioner for Environment Mr. Tob Loko, assured residents that emergency responses were underway, including deploying amphibious excavators for desilting and drainage clearance in flood-prone areas.
