Flooding Disrupts Transportation in Lagos and Ogun States

Heavy rainfall on Sunday caused significant flooding across Lagos and Ogun states, leading to the submersion of major roads such as Agbado Road and those connecting to Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Commuters and motorists faced severe disruptions, with many vehicles nearly submerged in floodwaters, particularly in areas like Idimu.

The flooding has rendered several routes impassable, including those linking communities like Adiyan, Op Ilu, Itoki, and Abul Ijoko. Residents expressed frustration over recurring flooding issues, attributing them to poor urban planning and inadequate drainage systems.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has issued warnings about heightened flood risks during the peak rainy season, predicting widespread rainfall that could trigger further flooding in 27 states across Nigeria. The agency noted that persistent rainfall has left the soil saturated and unable to absorb additional water.

Local authorities are urged to address drainage maintenance and urban planning to mitigate future flooding.
