Reps Demand Federal Action on Flooding in Ondo Communities

On Thursday, the House of Representatives called for urgent Federal Government intervention in response to severe flooding and erosion that impacted communities in Ile-Oluji, Okeigbo, and Odigbo Federal Constituencies, Nigeria. The motion, sponsored by Hon Festus Ayodele Adefiranye, was seconded by Hon Dabo Ismaila Haruna.

Adefiranye reported that torrential rainfall from July 8 to July 12, 2026, caused extensive damage to homes, farmlands, and infrastructure, displacing many residents and disrupting socio-economic activities. The lawmaker emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian assistance, as farmers and small business owners faced significant losses.

The House urged the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to provide relief materials and support for affected residents. Additionally, it called on the Federal Ministries of Works, Water Resources and Sanitation, and Environment to implement flood control measures, including the dredging of River Olore to prevent future flooding.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas praised Adefiranye for addressing this critical issue.
