Nasarawa Flooding Claims Two Lives, Displaces Thousands

Flooding in Nasarawa has led to the deaths of two individuals and the destruction of seven additional village settlements, impacting over 5,000 residents. Dr Nawani Aboki, the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, disclosed these details during a press briefing.
He attributed the flooding to the overflow of the River Benue and stated that the State Emergency Management Agency has been tasked with distributing relief materials to those displaced. Many residents have relocated to higher ground in communities such as Rukubi, Angbashim, and Apanaja.
Dr Aboki emphasized that efforts are being intensified to evacuate all residents living along the river to safer areas to prevent further loss of life and destruction. The Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA) is conducting comprehensive visits to impacted sites and compiling a detailed report to facilitate the rollout of relief measures, medical supplies, and food to prevent disease outbreaks in displacement camps.
