Flying Eagles Advance to WAFU B Semis Despite Loss

The Flying Eagles suffered a 2-0 defeat to Burkina Faso in their final Group B match of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 tournament on Sunday at the Lycee Scientifique de Yamoussoukro. Despite this loss, Nigeria secured qualification for the semi-finals due to earlier victories over Ghana and Togo, winning 4-2 against Ghana and 3-0 against Togo.

Burkina Faso opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a header from a corner kick and doubled their lead in the 36th minute with a free-kick from around 30 yards that went past the Nigerian goalkeeper. The Flying Eagles attempted to respond in the second half but struggled to penetrate a disciplined Burkina Faso defense.

Their earlier performances ensured they advanced to the knockout stage, where they will continue their quest for success in the tournament, which serves as qualifiers for the U-20 AFCON.
