Flying Eagles Lose 4-1 to Burkina Faso in U-20 Final

Coach Abdul Maikaba has stated that Nigeria’s Flying Eagles suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Burkina Faso in the final of the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship due to conceding three early goals. The match took place at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, on Sunday.

The Flying Eagles fell behind three times within the first 15 minutes, allowing Burkina Faso’s Young Stallions to dominate the game. As a result of this loss, Nigeria will not qualify for the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations and, consequently, the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan.

Maikaba acknowledged that the poor start was crucial, admitting that tactical mistakes in defense led to the early goals. He expressed surprise at the defensive errors and praised Burkina Faso for their consistent performance throughout the tournament, noting they did not lose any matches and scored in every game.
