Nigeria and WIPO Forge Partnership for Innovation Growth

On Tuesday in Abuja, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, received a high-level delegation from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) led by its Director General, Mr.

Daren Tang. The meeting aimed to deepen collaboration to advance innovation, science, technology, and intellectual property development in Nigeria.

Discussions focused on strategies to strengthen Nigeria's innovative ecosystem, commercial research outcomes, and enhance intellectual property protection. Dr.

Udeh reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to creating an enabling environment for innovative entrepreneurs, emphasizing the importance of intellectual property rights in stimulating innovation, attracting investment, and creating wealth. He noted that stronger collaboration with WIPO would position Nigeria as a leading innovation hub in Africa.

Mr. Tang commended Nigeria's efforts in promoting innovation and reaffirmed WIPO's commitment to providing technical assistance and capacity-building programs.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to draft and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide a framework for deeper cooperation in promoting technology transfer and managing intellectual property.
