Nigeria and WIPO Strengthen Ties on Innovation

Nigeria has expanded its cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to enhance intellectual property and innovation. This agreement was formalized during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where Vice President Kashim Shettima welcomed WIPO's decision to open its first office in Abuja, marking the first such office in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The initiative aims to develop a comprehensive framework for managing and commercializing intellectual property in Nigeria, with the goal of transforming creative innovations into tangible financial assets. Vice President Shettima emphasized the importance of protecting intellectual property to attract investors and foster economic growth.

WIPO Director General Daren Tang noted that this visit is significant for Nigeria's growth and prosperity, highlighting the role of Nigerian entrepreneurs in shaping the global intellectual property landscape. The meeting also included discussions on enhancing technological transfer and reaffirming the Tinubu administration's commitment to intellectual property policies.
