FMIST and UNN Collaborate to Boost Research and Innovation

The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, under the leadership of Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, held a meeting in Abuja with Prof.

Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to strengthen collaboration between the government and academia. The focus of this partnership is to advance research and innovation that can contribute to national development.

Dr. Udeh emphasized the necessity for Nigeria to move beyond conducting research solely for academic purposes, advocating for the translation of scientific discoveries into market-driven products and services that can stimulate industrial growth and economic diversification.

He highlighted the ministry's flagship initiative aimed at energizing the commercial economy and attracting investments to accelerate research outputs. Dr.

Mukhtar Yawal Muhammad, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, noted the importance of unlocking the commercial potential of Nigeria's research outputs. Prof.

Ortuanya expressed the university's readiness to partner with the ministry to enhance research excellence and contribute to Nigeria's socio-economic growth.
