Food Inflation Drops to 19.57% as FMCG Prices Stabilize

National food inflation eased to 19.57% in August, according to the priceandpromo FMCG Momentum report. The report tracked 110 fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) food products, revealing that nearly 80% recorded no month-on-month price movement.
Specifically, 79% of tracked products showed no monthly price change, while 12% experienced price declines and 9% saw increases. All six food categories monitored remained within the Stable range.
Notably, food seasoning prices remained stable, while noodles and edible oil also exhibited high price stability. Breakfast cereals and powdered milk showed the most significant price declines, with about 20% of comparable products in each category recording decreases in August.
The findings indicate that while stability dominates packaged FMCG food prices, downward price adjustments became more common, aligning with the easing of national food inflation. Additionally, a separate bi-weekly assessment indicated easing price pressures across key household commodities, driven by lower ingredient and grain prices, despite a 6% increase in PMS prices.
