Tribute to Biodun Jeyifo: A Revolutionary Scholar

Biodun Jeyifo, a prominent figure in African and African American Studies and a retired professor at Harvard University, passed away on February 11. His funeral will take place in Ibadan on Wednesday, where family, friends, and colleagues will pay tribute to his life and accomplishments.

Jeyifo was recognized as a significant ambassador of the revolutionary movement, dedicated to advancing human progress. He reaffirmed his commitment to socialist ideals on January 5, shortly before his death, during a symposium organized by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism to celebrate his 80th birthday.

His contributions to Marxism were acknowledged by peers, including Eddi Madunagu, who listed him among influential leftist thinkers. Jeyifo's scholarship was characterized by a rigorous application of Marxist theory, and he was known for his respect for diverse faiths, although he identified as an atheist.
