CCB Achieves First Convictions and Asset Seizures from Officials

Abdullahi Bello, Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), announced that the bureau has secured its first convictions and seized property and funds from public officials who breached the code of conduct. This announcement was made during an anti-corruption and asset tracing workshop in Abuja, organized by the Human and Environmental Development Agenda in collaboration with the Platform to Protect Whistleblowers in Africa.

Although Bello did not provide specific details or timelines regarding the convictions or the seized assets, he emphasized that the CCB has investigated the assets of over 20 ministers and 30 permanent secretaries. The bureau has transitioned from merely receiving asset declarations to actively examining, investigating, and prosecuting suspected infractions.

Bello stated that asset tracing is central to the bureau's anti-corruption efforts, with provisions for sanctions including removal from office, disqualification from holding public office, and forfeiture of assets acquired through breaches.
