Obasanjo Warns Against Foreign Aid's Economic Risks

On Wednesday, former President Olusegun Obasanjo warned African nations about the dangers of accepting foreign aid that compromises their sovereignty during the public presentation of the book ‘The Ibru Story: An Account of a Pioneering Nigerian Business Family’ at the MUSON Centre in Onikan, Lagos. He recounted Nigeria's $20 million assistance to Angola during President Agostinho Neto's administration and how Soviet influence hindered other investments in Angola's fishing industry.

Obasanjo stressed the importance of evaluating the conditions attached to foreign assistance, stating that Angola's reliance on Soviet aid stifled its economic opportunities. He also reflected on Michael Ibru's management philosophy, advocating for family unity and discipline as key values.

Goodie Ibru, the chief host of the event, announced that proceeds from the book sales would support the Ibru Foundation, focusing on education and entrepreneurship, echoing Michael Ibru's belief in wealth creation as a solution to poverty.
