Sheikh Gumi Claims Foreign Intelligence Fuels Nigeria's Insecurity

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a well-known Islamic cleric based in Kaduna, has asserted that foreign intelligence operations are contributing to the insecurity in Nigeria. In a Facebook post on Tuesday, he pointed to a pattern of violence, including a recent attack on the Gari Ya Way community in Plateau State that resulted in 20 deaths and several injuries.

Gumi condemned the shedding of innocent blood and suggested that foreign entities are using unscrupulous Nigerians as mercenaries. He referenced multiple coordinated bomb blasts in Maiduguri on March 16, 2026, which led to at least 23 deaths and 100 injuries.

Gumi emphasized the need for Nigeria to examine foreign involvement in its security architecture and called for assistance from benevolent superpowers, while also advocating for the development of Nigeria's own military capabilities to ensure sovereignty and security.
