Sidya Touré, Former Guinean PM, to Be Buried in Ivory Coast

Sidya Touré, the former Prime Minister of Guinea, passed away in Paris at the age of 81. He had been receiving medical treatment after falling ill in Abidjan.
Touré had lived in exile in Ivory Coast since September 2021, following the military coup that ousted President Alpha Condé and brought Gen. Mamadi Doumbouya to power. He served as Guinea’s prime minister from July 1996 to March 1999 under President Lansana Conté, during which he implemented administrative and economic reforms and aimed to enhance Guinea’s relations with international financial institutions.
After his tenure, Touré became a significant opposition figure as the leader of the Union of Republican Forces, a major opposition party in Guinea. The UFR was among 40 political parties dissolved by authorities in March as part of a political crackdown.
Touré's remains are expected to arrive in Abidjan on Friday for burial in Ivory Coast.
