Former Guinea PM Touré Dies in Paris After Illness

Guinea's former Prime Minister, Touré, passed away on Friday in Paris after being hospitalized for two weeks at the American Hospital of Paris. He had been leading the Union of Republican Forces (UFR) from exile in Ivory Coast since fleeing Guinea after the September 2021 military coup that brought Mamady Doumbouya to power.
The UFR was among 40 political parties dissolved in March during a crackdown on civil liberties. Touré, who had a significant political career, served as Prime Minister from July 1996 until March 1999 under President Lansana Conte, implementing administrative and economic reforms.
He became the head of the UFR in 2000 and was a leading opposition figure, running for president in 2010 and 2015 but losing both elections. His death was mourned by fellow opposition leader Cellou Dalein Diallo, who expressed regret for the loss to Guinea.
Current Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah also remembered Touré in a post on X.
