Egbetokun Addresses Attacks from Wealthy Individuals

Former Inspector General of Police, Egbetokun, has revealed that he is facing attacks from wealthy individuals and groups who are unhappy with his reform initiatives within the Nigerian Police Force. He asserts that these entities are sponsoring a media campaign aimed at discrediting him following the introduction of disciplinary measures that affect their interests.

Egbetokun explained that upon assuming office, he discovered widespread falsification of service records within the force, with allegations that money was paid to manipulate these records, extending service years beyond statutory limits. He initiated an investigation into this scheme.

Furthermore, Egbetokun disclosed that a controversial issue involves a group of cadet force entrants seeking to remain in service beyond their statutory period, relying on a judgment from the National Industrial Court of Nigeria. He noted that the attacks are linked to amendments in the Nigerian Police Act that allow for a four-year tenure, and he accused elements of being part of a movement aimed at inciting protests against the police.
