Former Finance Minister Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji Buried

Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, a former minister of finance in Nigeria from 1988 to 1992 and Sardaunan Sokoto, passed away on Thursday in Abuja. He was buried in Sokoto on the same day, adhering to Islamic rites.

The funeral prayer was conducted by Sheikh Muhammad Bello Akwara, the Chief Imam of Sultan Bello Juma’at Mosque. Vice-President Kashim Shettima represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the funeral.

Other attendees included the ministers of Labour and Employment, Alhaji Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, and of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu. The Deputy Governor of Sokoto state, Engr.

Idris Muhammad Gobir, represented Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, who was out of the country. The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, and the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt.

Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, were also present, along with various dignitaries from across Nigeria.

Alhaji was also a former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and a respected elder statesman.
