Former Plateau Assembly Speaker Peter Azi Dies at 2026

Peter Azi, the former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, has died. His death was confirmed by a family member, John Azi, on Friday, August 13, 2026, who stated that Peter passed away the previous day.

The cause of death was not disclosed. The Azi Ajang family expressed their submission to God's will in announcing his passing.

Peter Azi represented the Jos North-West Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly and was elected as the Speaker of the eighth Assembly as a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He assumed the role of Speaker in June 2015 and held the position until July 2018, when he was removed by his colleagues.
