Four Nigerians Arrested in India for Drug Trafficking

Four Nigerian nationals were arrested in India for their alleged involvement in a drug trafficking network, with narcotics valued at approximately ₹15 crore (₦ 2.1 billion) recovered. The arrests were part of coordinated operations by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), state police, and other security agencies, initiated on July 18 after intelligence from the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF).

The first arrest was of Obase Prosper Ogboronjor, who was found with over 5 kg of amphetamine and was also wanted in a cyber-fraud case involving ₹68 lakh. He had overstayed his medical visa, which expired in June 2023.

A follow-up operation on July 21 led to the arrest of Abuchi George Okorie in Gurugram, where 9.7 kg of amphetamine and 67.84 kg of pseudoephedrine were seized. Okorie had entered India on a medical attendant visa that expired in June 2015.

On August 3, Uchenna Stephen Nwanko and Chikezie Joshua Igwe were arrested in Mehrauli, Delhi, with 318 grams of cocaine and 6 grams of heroin, having lived illegally in India for over 13 years. An unidentified African woman was injured while attempting to flee during the operation.
