NDLEA Intercepts 2.55 Million Opioid Pills in Lagos

On September 22, 2026, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted 2.55 million pharmaceutical opioid pills, weighing 1,640.55 kilogrammes and valued at over N3 billion, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. This seizure, one of the largest opioid hauls of the year, occurred during a joint examination of three monitored consignments containing Tramaking 225mg, Tramaking 250mg, and Royal Tapentadol 250mg, imported from India and Bangladesh via Qatar Airways, RwandAir, and Ethiopian Airlines.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed the details of the operation. In a separate incident at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA), Enugu, Lovely Chukwulobelu, a 25-year-old businessman, was arrested on September 24 for attempting to traffic cocaine to Portugal.

He had ingested 72 wraps of cocaine and was placed under observation until he expelled the wraps. Chukwulobelu had recently married on September 13, 2026, and allegedly turned to drug trafficking to cover wedding expenses.
