French Court Dismisses Cardiff City's £104m Claim

A French court has rejected Cardiff City FC's claim for £104 million in compensation related to the death of Argentine striker Emiliano Sala, who died in a plane crash on January 21, 2019. Sala was traveling in a Piper Malibu aircraft piloted by David Ibbotson when it crashed into the English Channel.

Cardiff City had claimed damages of £120 million, citing loss of income and other damages, arguing that Sala's presence would have helped the club remain in the Premier League. The court ruled in favor of FC Nantes, dismissing Cardiff's claim and ordering the club to pay approximately £400,000 in legal fees to Nantes.

Cardiff City has not yet decided whether to appeal the ruling. Merced Taffarel, Sala's mother, was present in court alongside Cardiff's representatives during the hearing.

This ruling represents a significant setback for Cardiff City in their efforts to recover financial losses associated with the incident, highlighting the complexities of legal disputes in football.
