Man Charged for Selling Gun to ODU Shooter Jalloh

Chapman has been charged with federal offenses for allegedly selling a firearm to Moham Bailor Jalloh, the shooter at Old Dominion University, who opened fire in a classroom, resulting in one death and two injuries. Jalloh, a former Army National Guard member, had previously been convicted in a terrorism case in Kenya and was barred from possessing firearms.

He had pleaded guilty in 2016 for attempting to aid the Islamic State extremist group. The shooting occurred during a class attended by active-duty ROTC students.

Jalloh reportedly sought a gun for protection and had taken online classes at the university. Chapman, who met Jalloh through work, denied knowing about Jalloh's felony conviction.

The investigation revealed that Chapman had previously engaged in a straw purchase of firearms and had communicated with Jalloh multiple times before the shooting. Jalloh is currently serving an 11-year sentence for his terrorism-related offense and is set for supervised release in December 2024.
