Ardo Challenges INEC Over NDC Registration Process

Ardo has initiated legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). He alleges that the NDC's registration process deviated from established procedures and did not undergo proper scrutiny.

This lawsuit arises amidst ongoing controversies related to the registration of new political parties, with INEC having announced in February 2026 that only two out of 171 political associations were approved during a quarterly consultative meeting with political party leaders in Abuja. INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan explained that the commission assesses applications based on constitutional provisions and electoral guidelines.

In response, NDC's national secretary Ikenna Enekweizu dismissed Ardo's allegations. Ardo maintains that the NDC's registration did not comply with INEC's requirements and has submitted necessary documents for review, which were subsequently denied alongside 13 other associations.

He has vowed to challenge the judicial process surrounding the NDC's registration further.
