Fresh Twist as Court Gives Tinubu’s Govt 45 Days to Conclude Dasuki’s Trial

The Federal High Court in Abuja has given President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's government 45 days to conclude the prosecution of former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki. The court fixed September 24-26 for the government to wrap up Dasuki's trial on charges of unlawful possession of firearms and money laundering.

Justice Peter Lifu issued the directive on August 12, 2025, allowing the government to bring additional witnesses and enabling the defendant to open his defense. Dasuki, who was arrested in 2015 for alleged misappropriation of billions in arms purchase funds during the administration of the late President, was released in 2019.

He is also facing charges at the FCT High Court and the EFCC for similar offenses. The current ordeal Dasuki is facing is rumored to be linked to his alleged mismanagement of funds while serving as NSA, with some sources suggesting that he was overthrown by a military head of state in 1985.
