Bandits Kidnap 12 Pupils in Niger State During Harvest
On Saturday, 12 pupils from Madarasatul Nurul Islam in Maikujeri, Rafi Local Government Area, Niger State were kidnapped by bandits while harvesting maize on their teacher’s farm. The abduction occurred around 10 am as the children were returning home and had stopped at a borehole to wash and drink water.
A resident, Mohammed Adamu, reported that an Okada rider named Tasi’u was shot while trying to escape and is currently receiving treatment at IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna. The victims, aged between nine and 14, included the younger brother of the school’s proprietor, Mallam Mainasara.
The Niger Police Command's spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the rescue of six individuals in a separate operation on October 29, 2026, but did not address the kidnapping of the pupils. Additionally, many farming communities in Borgu, Mariga, Mashegu, and Rijau LGAs are fleeing due to ongoing bandit attacks, leaving their crops to waste.
