Student Reports 14 Family Members Abducted in Niger Attack
On August 21, terrorists attacked the communities of Dekara, Kpenya, Sabon-Gida, and Gidan-Zana during Juma’at prayers, leading to the abduction of numerous worshippers. Muhibbat, a student, revealed that 14 of her family members, including her father and grandfather, are among those taken.
Following the attack, the terrorists released a video claiming to have abducted 500 individuals, including women and children, which families later confirmed by identifying their relatives. The affected communities released a list of 547 abductees, contradicting Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago's assertion that only 63 were kidnapped.
Bago described the higher figures as “social media hype.” The chairman of Borgu LGA, Mohammed Nasir Abdullahi, also supported the lower count. Muhibbat expressed the trauma her family faces, stating they have lost everything and are unable to attend school due to the incident.
The families are appealing to both the federal and Niger State governments for assistance in rescuing their loved ones.
